How to create useful barcode labels

Arrange product text, machine-readable codes, and optional spreadsheet bindings in a physical-size label template.

Start from the physical label

Measure the label in millimeters or inches and set its width and height before placing elements. Leave space near edges for printer tolerances. Separate the barcode from decorative lines and text so its quiet zones remain blank. Keep human-readable identifiers legible if staff will use them when a scanner is unavailable.

Build reusable elements

Add product-name text, a barcode or QR symbol, a price, and a SKU as needed. Bind each element to a spreadsheet header using the field syntax shown in the designer. Check multiple records: a template that fits a short name may overflow with a long product description. Move and resize elements without distorting a machine-readable symbol.

Test the whole workflow

Check the generated PDF at the intended paper size, then print one sheet at actual size. Scan several labels and compare the decoded values with the source records. Store only non-sensitive templates locally on shared devices, or export JSON to keep a template under your own control.
