How to create a Wi-Fi QR code for guests

Share guest Wi-Fi safely with an escaped Wi-Fi payload and a practical device-testing checklist.

Use a guest network

A Wi-Fi QR code is a convenient way to share credentials, not a security layer. Anyone who sees the code can extract the network name and password. Use a dedicated guest network with appropriate access isolation rather than your private office or home network.

Match the network exactly

Network names and passwords are case-sensitive. Enter the SSID exactly, choose the matching security family, and enable the hidden option only if your router hides the network. The generator escapes semicolons, commas, quotation marks, colons, and backslashes in the Wi-Fi payload so they do not accidentally split its fields.

Test before displaying it

Scan with a phone that is not already connected to the network. Check Android and iOS if both are expected. WPA3-only and enterprise networks may not accept the same onboarding flow. If you change the password, replace every displayed copy of the static code.
